About the event

Roots of Remedy: Exploring the 18th Century Herb Garden

Talks by Mary Jo Sonntag, Kristin Gebhart and Mariah Simensky

Step into the garden and back in time!  Join us at Woodville  as we explore the vibrant world of herbs and medicinal plants from 1785 to 1815. Discover how thyme, rosemary, sage, and lovage flavored colonial kitchens, while feverfew, hyssop, and yarrow offered natural remedies for everyday ailments. From lavender’s soothing scent to parsley’s healing touch, these plants tell stories of resilience, resourcefulness, and tradition. Come learn how early Americans cultivated wellness—one leaf at a time.

Free admission and tours sponsored by Viatris.
